Fostering Young Lives

Liz and Angela

We never thought fostering was an option for us - until recently, it wasn't possible for gay and lesbian couples to adopt, and I guess we assumed the same applied to fostering.

When we saw The Benevolent Society's stall at Fair Day we stopped to have a chat. Next thing we knew, we'd applied to be long-term carers. We were so excited about the idea of having a child in our lives that we wanted to get moving pretty quickly.

Then when we started the training with Fostering Young Lives, it hit us that this was a really big thing to take on! But every time we got scared, our Case Manager was there to talk through our concerns.

Now we can't imagine life without Aiden - he really is a magician in the way he's brought our extended family together. Our parents are ecstatic! We'd ruled out IVF, so they never thought they'd get a grandchild from us.

Officially, Aiden's in our care up until he turns 18. But we know he'll always be part of our family.
